Hello! 你好!

I am Wan Ni a Year 2 student in Communication Design at Temasek Polytechnic. I have been interested in the Chinese Language since I was young and growing up in a Chinese-speaking family, has made really fond of Chinese culture. My hobbies are watching Chinese dramas, movies and variety shows, and Douyin.

Introduction of Guided Learning 

The subject introduces students to the concepts and process of self-directed learning in a chosen area of inquiry. The process focusses on four stages: planning, performing, monitoring and reflecting. Students get to plan their individual learning project, refine and execute the learning plan, as well as monitor and reflect on their learning progress and project. The learning will be captured and showcased through a curated portfolio. The self- directed learning project will broaden and/or deepen a student’s knowledge and skills.

Introduction of and background information of my Learning Project 

My chosen topic for Guided learning is Understanding and learning to design with Chinese Typography. I decided to do this topic as firstly, I have loved the Chinese language and its culture since young. Secondly, in year 1 of Communication Design at Temasek Poly, I learnt to play with English types and I want to explore more with Chinese typography. Lastly, is because, in Singapore, we hardly see Chinese type being played as our main language is English and the Gen Z would think that the mother language is not important as the world has a common language which is English. My aim for this module is to understand and create at least 3 typography and with illustration posters by the end of the semester.
